On a mission to deliver Energy Efficient Cooling to the world

The Call for Applications for the Incubator was launched on 21 January and closed 14 February. Applicants were asked to submit projects for highly efficient air-conditioning or refrigeration solutions using low-global-warming potential or natural refrigerants.

The  five winners who will receive free technical assistance from BASE to integrate Cooling as a Service into their business lines and to pilot the model have already been selected. Know more about the winners here.

Who applied for the incubator?

The incubator welcomed technology providers offering highly efficient air-conditioning or refrigeration solutions using low-global-warming potential or natural refrigerants, including global, regional and local manufacturers and contractors.

What is happening now?

The five selected companies are receiving free technical assistance from BASE to integrate Cooling as a Service into their business lines and to pilot the model. In addition, they are benefiting from significant international exposure and an active access to our network.

Arjun Gupta, Smart Joules, India
“It was great to work with BASE who helped us to develop our CaaS contract and its implementation. We are confident we will soon launch our first project.”

How is the incubator supporting the companies?

The selected companies are working with a team of analysts, key stakeholders, and experts to:
  • Define the contractual arrangements to implement CaaS.
  • Define a pricing strategy and perform economic modeling of CaaS.
  • Define a financial structure to monetize your CaaS projects.
  • Identify and establish risk mitigation instruments.
  • Leverage digitalization to enable servitization.
  • Clearly communicate the value of the model to your customers.

Which was the selection criteria?

The selection criteria was based on the following factors:
  • Our priority regions are: Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
  • Technology must be commercially available.
  • Technology must be highly efficient.
  • Technology should use a refrigerant that has zero Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP), is of lower toxicity (Class A) and complies with IEC 60335-2-40 or ISO 5149. Natural refrigerants are preferred.
  • Have a strong interest to implement CaaS.
  • Ideally but not necessarily targeting sectors that also have a social impact, such as education, healthcare or agriculture.
  • Are willing to set up a working group to implement the CaaS mechanism to work with the BASE team.
  • You have a clear project in mind on which you would like to implement CaaS.
