BGH Group Brings Innovative Cooling as a Service model to Argentina

One of the five CaaS Incubator companies, BGH Eco Smart (a unit of the BGH Group specialised in energy efficiency and smart building solutions), is bringing this pay-per-use business model to the Argentinean market to help upscale the use of climate friendly cooling solutions.

In Argentina, buildings are responsible for 40 per cent of total energy consumption. Within each corporate building, the energy consumption from HVAC systems represents almost 70 per cent of its consumption. Within this framework, Cooling as a Service (CaaS) is presented as a financial instrument designed to overcome the main barriers that the HVAC market faces for the clean cooling of commercial and industrial buildings, promoting incentives for efficient production and consumption. This model allows end users to base their purchase decision on the life cycle cost of the refrigeration system, instead of the price.

In its continuous search to promote the adoption of this model, BASE announced the Cooling as a Service (CaaS) Incubator in January 2020 – an initiative from which it supports five technology providers from all over the world in the implementation of CaaS projects.

Within this framework, BGH Eco Smart was one of the five companies selected among 35 applicants from different regions and sectors as one of them to promote the business model in Argentina and the region. The projects include air-conditioning and refrigeration for commercial and industrial buildings (such as universities, shops, shopping centres, offices, and hotels).

Since then, BGH Eco Smart and the rest of the selected companies have created a dedicated team to work with BASE on technical, legal, fiscal, commercial and financial aspects, with the aim of launching the first demonstration projects by the third quarter of 2020.

We are very proud to be one of the few companies in the world to have been selected to promote the Cooling as a Service model in our country and the region,” said Martin Mendez Decoud, Business Manager of BGH Eco Smart. “We strongly believe in this model in which user and supplier build a long-term relationship, boosting business in both directions and, above all, generating awareness in large companies and organisations about the importance of energy efficiency.”

BGH Eco Smart is a local company specialised in energy efficiency, with diversity of products and regional presence. “In its DNA is technological innovation and flexibility to embrace new solutions and develop new markets. As such, they are a very strong partner to promote all the advantages of the Cooling as a Service model in Argentina,” said Thomas Motmans, Sustainable Energy Finance Specialist of BASE.
