“Local Action, Global Impact”: Cooling as a Service presented at CICS2020
BASE presented at the International Conference on Sustainable Cities (CICS2020) on 14 July to share practical experiences with the development of innovative business models to unlock investments in energy efficient equipment for sustainable buildings, particularly with the Cooling as a Service servitisation model.
The CICS2020 is a major event organised by the Green Building Council of Costa Rica. This seventh version, first time in virtual format, had over 800 participants from 46 different countries, and covered a variety of topics around the overarching theme of “Local Action – Global Impact”. These included presentations on sustainable lifestyles, smart cities, resource efficiency, society, decarbonization, mobility, public space, design, sustainable buildings, circular economy, smart cities and many more during the four-day program from July 13-16, fostering forward thinking through plenaries, scientific sessions, workshops, and training sessions.
During the event, BASE had the opportunity to share their experience with more that 90 attendees. Daniel Magallon, Managing Director at BASE, and Carla Della Maggiora, Senior Climate Change and Environmental Finance Specialist at BASE presented on the barriers to the adoption of existing energy efficient technologies, and the development of mechanisms to address these barriers as well. They presented on BASE’s experience with the “Energy Savings Insurance” and “Cooling as a Service (CaaS)” models, both of which are helping to scale up investment on energy efficiency around the globe.
“The CICS is a great platform to connect with participants and develop direct contact with experts from around the world, as well as with leaders from the public and private sector,” said Della Maggiora. “CICS 2020 provided an excellent opportunity through the global visibility it offered.”
The World Green Building Council is a member of the CaaS alliance and, together with BASE, they have developed a working program with their Americas regional network.
